One important reason for the popularity of online dictionaries is that they provide a lot of conveniences for their users. Traditional paperback dictionaries are heavy to carry, while online dictionaries  are weightless and can be carried easily once they have been installed. You can even hear how the word is pronounced in both British and American accents.
